Report: Growth in operating income of cultural enterprises

The National Bureau of Statistics released the "Statistical Communiqué of the People's Republic of China on the 2020 National Economic and Social Development" on Feb 28.

According to preliminary calculations, the annual gross domestic product was 101.5986 trillion yuan ($15.70 trillion), an increase of 2.3 percent over the previous year. The added value of primary industry was 7,775.4 billion yuan, an increase of 3 percent; the added value of secondary industry was 3,842,550 billion yuan, an increase of 2.6 percent; the added value of the tertiary industry was 5,539,777 billion yuan, an increase of 2.1 percent.

Regarding the cultural tourism section, the communiqué stated:

At the end of the year, there were 2,027 art performance groups and 3,510 museums in the national cultural and tourism system. There are 3,203 public libraries nationwide with 569.53 million visitors as well as 3,327 cultural centers.

There were 210 million actual cable TV users, of which 201 million are cable digital TV users. At the end of the year, the comprehensive population coverage rate of radio programs was 99.4 percent, and the comprehensive population coverage rate of TV programs was 99.6 percent.

Two hundred and two TV series 7,476 episodes and 116,688 minutes of TV cartoons were produced throughout the year. Added to those were 531 feature films and 119 science, education, documentary, animation and special films.

The country published 27.7 billion copies of various newspapers, 2 billion copies of various periodicals, and 10.1 billion book pages in 2020. The estimated per capita book ownership is 7.24.

At the end of the year, there were 4,234 archives nationwide, and 176.59 million volumes of various archives had been opened to the public.

In the whole year, the operating income of cultural and related industrial enterprises above designated size was 9,851.4 billion yuan, an increase of 2.2 percent over the previous year.

There were 2.88 billion domestic tourists in the whole year, a decrease of 52.1 percent over the previous year.

Among them, tourists from urban areas were 2.07 billion, a decrease of 53.8 percent; tourists from rural areas numbered 810 million, a decrease of 47.0 percent.

Domestic tourism revenue was 2,228.6 billion yuan, down 61.1 percent. Tourists from urban areas spent 1,796.7 billion yuan, down 62.2 percent and tourists from rural areas spent 432 billion yuan, down 55.7 percent.
