Located in the northeast of Tongzhou new town and south of Songzhuang village, the cluster zone has a planning area of 14.6 square kilometers. It is the largest among the first 10 cultural creative cluster zones authorized by the Beijing municipality in Dec 2006.

To date, there have been approximately 5,000 artists, 4,500 artist’s studios, and 200 art galleries and institutions in the cluster zone. Annually more than 1,000 cultural activities and exhibitions are staged, attracting some 500,000 visitors from China and abroad. It is truly an artists’ community of national and world fame.

Tongzhou new town does its spatial planning in accordance with the optimized adjustment of Beijing’s urban construction. And, in accordance with the plan, the cluster zone in Songzhuang is expected to become an area of creativity and trade for international original arts.

High-quality projects on cultural industry exhibition and trade, creative design, and film and media will be brought in. To integrate the domestic and foreign cultural creative resources with science, technology and finance, the cluster zone will develop a dedicated industrial chain, with the ultimate goal of creating a new cultural economic demonstration area.
